Ben Nevis 19 year old (Cadenhead’s)
Bottle: Standard Cadenhead’s small batch bottling.
Nose: Light and fresh with some aniseed, elderflower and coconut oil. An excellent blend of aromas and very clean. A great start…
Body: Medium and oily. More viscous than it looks.
Palate: Really crisp and sharp. This is lovely. Liquorice, green capsicum, lime cordial, coconut and a little rock salt. It’s also incredibly smooth.
Finish: Medium length. The liquorice and green pepper remain fairly strong and it ends on a lovely buttery note.
Neat/Ice/Water: 100% neat no question. At 51.1% it’s uber smooth and perfectly balanced. Do not dilute this in any way.
Verdict: Superior (knocking on the door of Stunning!). This is an almost perfect dram and so so easy to drink. I absolutely love this. Really smooth and it has such lovely fresh flavours. Quite green in nature from the pale chartreuse colour of the spirit to the flavours that permeate mouth and finish. Only 222 bottles in existence and I own 2 of them! Still available in London last I checked and gobsmacking value at £59. My first Ben Nevis I must confess, and this is so good that it has piqued my interest in seeking out more of this distillery’s product in the future. Stay tuned…
