Bowmore 2000 14 year old cask #800093 (Signatory)
Bottle: Standard Signatory cask strength collection bottling with the notable exception, as stated on the label, that the cask has been hand picked by The Whisky Exchange. Should be something a little bit special then.
Nose: Light smoke, sea air, vanilla and tropical fruits. Not too heavy and inviting.
Body: Medium with just a touch of wax.
Palate: Tropical fruits remain, sea salt fizz, vanilla again, a little chilli, white pepper and gentle smoke which is stronger in the mouth than on the nose.
Finish: Starts wet and gets drier as it goes. Good length. A little medicinal, faint rubber, vanilla still there and some wood.
Neat/Ice/Water: Neat. No watering required here.
Verdict: Superior. This is a fine single cask Bowmore that the lads at TWE have chosen. The bourbon cask keeps things sweet and refreshing which partners the lightly smoked, salty spirit ever so nicely. Quite lively and moreish. Still available last I looked, it’s good value at £80 for the quality of the spirit and it being bottled at cask strength. 233 bottles only. This will appeal to drinkers of the lighter Islay malts like Caol Ila. Yummy…
