Glendronach 2003 13 year old (Cask # 713)
Bottle: This is a special bottling exclusively for the Green Welly Stop. It’s a single PX cask maturation.
Nose: Vanilla, sultana and marzipan. Clean and dry to breathe.
Body: Waxy and a little resinous.
Palate: Cointreau-ish flavours, burnt brown sugar, a little eucalyptus and toasted oak. Elegant delivery. Good structure.
Finish: Medium length and soft. Fades smoothly with some liquorice and molasses.
Neat/Ice/Water: 56.5%. Neat.
Verdict: Superior. This one really pays off in the mouth. Just glorious in terms of balance and poise. Intense sherry and orange melange dominate proceedings with burnt, sweet, spicy undertones. The nose and finish are largely unexceptional but boy does it kick off on the palate! Fully matured in a single Pedro Ximenez sherry puncheon there are 670 bottles only. Cost me about £65 a few months back which is a bargain for the outstanding quality of this malt. Really good stuff.
